ABOUT
Founded in 2002, YES IS A WORLD is a nonprofit organization working to
promote peace and social change through musical diversity and the
collaboration of young artists. Our accomplishments to date have
included large-scale performances featuring solo acts, choirs and
orchestras, small recitals by individual artists, and fund-raising
benefits supporting other organizations. Thanks to a generous grant
from the Kaiser J. Family Foundation, we travelled to South Africa in
2006 to document the ways in which black South Africans are using
choral music in the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Since 2008, we have focused exclusively
on fiscal sponsorship,
fundraising and artistic support for other selected organizations that
help fufill our mission. These groups include New York's Red Light New
Music and Dither Electric Guitar Quartet, Charleston's New Music
Collective, Tanzania's Shina Basic School, Namibia's Namib Desert
Environmental Educational Trust (NaDEET), South Africa's J.L. Zwane
Center and Nkosi's Haven, and the Southeast Asian Tsunami relief
efforts of Faithful America.
Yes Is A World believes that a true
integration of musical styles results in meaningful dialogue and avoids
the confining parameters of traditional form. The juxtaposition of
contrasting musical genres exemplifies the individual richness of these
forms rather than the limitations. This concept parallels the belief
that humanity should be stronger and more unified through its
diversity, rather than be divided by it.
